Farmer’s Bottega is a farm-to-table restaurant in the Mission Hills neighborhood. I was pretty excited to try out the pancakes on their breakfast menu.
After scanning their menu for pancakes, I quickly landed on the Mix and Match Pancakes, which allows you to pick three of the pancakes on the menu. (I often will pick this option on the restaurant menu if it’s offered, so I can try as many different flavors as possible!) I chose to try the regular Buttermilk, the Bonfire (Reese’s spread, marshmallow, and graham crackers), and the Lemon Poppyseed.
I dove into the regular buttermilk pancake first. I immediately thought “Huh?! These don’t taste like ANYTHING!!!” They were so plain and boring! No batter taste, no buttery taste, no… pancake taste at all!
Still hopeful, I tired the Bonfire pancake next. With a combo of flavors that were supposed to taste like s’mores, I thought it would for sure have more flavor than the regular buttermilk. I was wrong. Sadly, the Bonfire pancake had the same dull buttermilk base… and the toppings added virtually nothing to the taste. The toppings were tasteless as well! You may be thinking, “How can marshmallow, Reese’s spread, and graham cracker be tasteless?!” I have no explanation for you. The flavors just fell so flat. Lastly, the Lemon Poppyseed were probably the best of the three, but still extremely mediocre, at best.
The unimpressive taste trumps all other factors here… I would not revisit these pancakes again.
Colin did drink coffee, here are Colin’s Coffee Comments: “Farm-alicious”. At least the coffee was good!
